Oakville Furnaces

The furnace you have depends on when your street was built.

Oakville grew in waves, and each wave left a different kind of furnace in the basement.

  • Older homes near the lake. In Old Oakville, Bronte and along Lakeshore Road, some homes still have a mid efficiency furnace venting up a chimney, or heat with a boiler and radiators. See boiler repair
  • 1970s to 1990s neighbourhoods. College Park, Falgarwood, Glen Abbey, River Oaks and Iroquois Ridge. Many furnaces here have been replaced at least once, usually with a high efficiency model and white plastic vent pipes
  • Late 1990s and 2000s builds. West Oak Trails and Westmount. Many original furnaces here are 20 years old or more, the age when parts start to wear out
  • New homes north of Dundas. The furnaces are young. Check your builder warranty first, then call us if it does not cover the repair

What Is Going On?

Oakville furnace problems, and what to check first.

A few checks take two minutes and sometimes solve it.

On a very cold night, a high efficiency furnace can stop because snow or frost is blocking its white plastic pipes outside. Clear them gently by hand, then set the thermostat again. Smell gas instead? See gas leak detection.

Same order every time, so you always know what comes next.

No heat in Oakville?

Call any time or send the form. Tell us what the furnace is doing and we will tell you the next step.

Two Furnaces

Big Oakville homes often have two furnaces.

Larger homes in south Oakville and the newer estates often run one furnace for the main floors and one for the upper floor.

  • Tell us which floor is cold. That tells us which furnace to look at first
  • If one furnace still works, it keeps part of the house warm while we fix the other
  • We can check the second furnace on the same visit, so it does not catch you out next month
  • Each furnace has its own thermostat. A dead battery in one can look like a dead furnace

FAQ

Oakville furnace repair FAQs.

How much is furnace repair in Oakville?

It depends on the part. We find the fault first, then give you the price in writing before we replace anything. New furnace prices are on our pricing list if you want to compare.

Can I call at night if my Oakville furnace stops?

Yes. The phone is answered 24/7, every day. Tell us what the furnace is doing and we will tell you the next step.

Snow is covering the white pipes outside my house. Is that a problem?

It can be. Those pipes bring in air and push out exhaust for a high efficiency furnace. If snow or frost blocks them, the furnace shuts off to stay safe. Clear them gently by hand. If it still will not run, call us.

My furnace is in a new home. Can you still repair it?

Check your builder warranty first. Some cover the furnace for the first years. If yours does not, or it has run out, we can repair it.

Should I count the flashes on my furnace before I call?

Yes. Most furnaces have a small light on the control board that you can see through a window in the lower door. Count the flashes and tell us the number. It points to the part, so we bring the right one.

Is a 20 year old furnace worth repairing?

Sometimes. A small part on a furnace that is otherwise sound can be worth fixing. A big repair on a 20 year old furnace usually is not. We give you both prices and you decide.

Can you fix the gas line to my furnace?

Yes. Our own licensed gas fitter does gas valve and gas pipe work. We do not hand gas work to another company. See gas line repair.
