Low system pressure, a failed circulator pump, a stuck zone valve, air trapped in the loop, an ignition or flame-sensing fault, or a control board problem. On older systems an expansion tank that has lost its charge is a frequent culprit.
That is usually trapped air in the radiator, which is fixed by bleeding it. If it keeps coming back, air is being drawn into the system somewhere and the cause needs finding rather than repeating the bleed every few weeks.
Once a year, before the heating season. An annual service checks combustion, the pressure relief valve, the expansion tank, the circulator and the venting, which is also what most manufacturers require to keep a warranty valid.
Yes, along with the pumps, zone valves, controls and venting around them. If the boiler also makes your domestic hot water, that side gets checked too.
Yes. Gas-fired boilers fall under the Technical Standards and Safety Authority in Ontario, the same as furnaces and water heaters, and the same licensing and inspection rules apply.
When the heat exchanger is compromised, when parts are no longer available, or when repeated repairs are approaching the cost of a replacement. We will give you the repair price and an honest view of whether it is money well spent.
Gas work in Ontario is regulated. Every gas appliance we touch is handled to the standards set by the province’s safety regulator, and any certificate or licence we hold can be verified through them.
