FAQ

Common questions.

What is actually done during an AC tune-up?

Refrigerant charge and pressures checked, the condenser coil cleaned, the evaporator and condensate drain inspected, electrical connections and the contactor checked, the capacitor tested, airflow and filter assessed, and the thermostat verified against actual performance.

When is the best time to book one?

Spring, before the first hot week. Booking in the middle of a heatwave means competing with everyone whose system has already failed, which is the worst time to need parts or an appointment.

How often should air conditioning be serviced?

Once a year. Most manufacturers also require documented annual maintenance to keep a warranty valid, so skipping it can cost more than the visit if something major fails.

Will a tune-up lower my electricity bill?

A dirty condenser coil and a low charge both make the system work harder for the same cooling, so correcting them helps. Anyone promising a specific percentage is guessing; the real value is catching a failure before it happens in August.

My AC still cools. Is a tune-up worth it?

Cooling is not the same as cooling efficiently or safely. A weak capacitor, a slow refrigerant leak or a blocked condensate drain will all still cool right up until the day they do not, usually on the hottest day of the year.

What if you find a problem during the tune-up?

You get told what it is, what it costs and whether it needs doing now or can wait. Nothing beyond the tune-up is carried out without your say-so.

Rebates worth checking first

Before you replace equipment, check what it qualifies for. Between the federal and Enbridge programs, a qualifying upgrade can come back to you in rebates — we will tell you which of these apply to your job.
