FAQ

Common questions.

What should I do first if my heat has failed in winter?

Check the thermostat has power and is set to heat, and check the furnace switch and the breaker, because those account for a surprising share of no-heat calls. If that is not it, call us. Do not leave a house unheated for long in an Ontario winter; pipes freeze.

What should I do if I smell gas?

Leave the building. Do not switch anything on or off and do not use a phone inside. From outside, call your gas utility's 24-hour emergency line, or 911 if anyone feels unwell. Call us once the immediate hazard has been dealt with.

Are you really available 24 hours?

Calls are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. No-heat, no-cool, water heater failures and suspected gas issues are treated as urgent rather than held to the next business day.

My air conditioning has failed in a heatwave. Is that an emergency?

It is treated as urgent, particularly where there are infants, elderly residents or anyone with a health condition in the home. Say so when you call, because it changes where you sit in the queue.

What does an emergency visit cost?

Our published air conditioning diagnostic is $165 + HST. Anything beyond the diagnostic is quoted before it is carried out, so you are never committed to a repair you have not agreed to.

Should I turn the system off while I wait?

If it is making a burning smell, a grinding noise, or leaking water into the building, yes, shut it down at the switch or breaker. Running a failing system usually turns a repair into a replacement.

Safety and licensing

Gas work in Ontario is regulated. Every gas appliance we touch is handled to the standards set by the province’s safety regulator, and any certificate or licence we hold can be verified through them.
